GEOCORAIL signs an agreement with FLUXEL to install a testing facility in the Fos Oil Port (Bouches-du-Rhône, France) and reinforce its operational R&D

L’Estaque, March 31st, 2016 – GEOCORAIL, an innovative company specialized in the prevention of coastal erosion and the protection of marine structures, announces today the signature of an agreement with FLUXEL SAS, the operator of the oil ports of Fos and Lavéra, for the installation of an R&D base in the Fos terminal (Bouches-du-Rhône).

GEOCORAIL will thus benefit from an ideally located site (close to a TGV station and the Marseille airport), with direct access to sea water. The company will install a 40 sq.m. covered test bench equipped with 45 sea water tanks with independent generators, allowing the testing of multiple operational parameters in parallel. The whole setup will be operational by the end of June 2016. It will supplement the R&D currently carried out at the Châtelaillon-Plage site (Charente-Maritime, France) as well as within the ANR Ecocorail program with three French universities (La Rochelle, Caen and Nouméa).

Commenting on this installation, Michel Peronnet, Chairman of FLUXEL SAS, declared: “In the context of the energy transition, FLUXEL has engaged in an industrial diversification at its sites. The innovative project of GEOCORAIL is consistent with our strategy to help young companies which develop technologies that can help us protect and maintain our installations. Furthermore, in this specific case, the Geocorail® process was derived from cathodic protection technologies, which are well known by FLUXEL and Oil & Gas operators, for the protection of pipelines.
The development of the Geocorail® process deserves to be supported because it generates a rocky concretion in situ without requiring cement or other external materials, that is very similar to the “Crau poudingue”, a natural concrete-like formation well known here around Fos. “

Philippe Andréani, Managing Director of GEOCORAIL: “We have been operating our first experimental site in full water on the Atlantic coast at Châtelaillon-Plage for nine months. The addition of this testing facility within the oil port of Fos opens up the Mediterranean shores, another strategic area for our activities. By significantly increasing the resources available to optimize the Geocorail® process and test its multiple applications, it will enable us to significantly speed up the development of our technology.
In parallel, the recent move of our offices from Paris to L’Estaque, in the 16th district of Marseille, approximately forty kilometers from our future testing facility, allows our team to be close to the field and focus on our markets. “

FLUXEL SAS has been the operator of the oil ports of Fos and Lavéra (80 ha – 20 wharves – 6 miles of rocky ripraps) since the July 4th, 2008 French harbor reform. The two ports allow the transfer of the four main families of Liquid Bulk products (crude oil, refined white & black products, liquefied petroleum gas and chemical products) for two major industries: refining and chemicals. The harbors of Fos and Lavéra can accommodate the largest ships currently in activity. FLUXEL directly feeds the three coastal refineries of PetroIneos (Lavéra), Total (La Mède) and Esso (Fos) as well as the crude storage depot of the Société du Pipeline Sud Européen (SPSE), which then transports the crude by pipelines to the refineries of Total in Feyzin and of Varo with Cressier (Switzeland). Fluxel also delivers to the depots of DPF, Geogaz, Primagaz and LBC.

GEOCORAIL develops and commercializes innovative solutions to mitigate shore erosion and protect maritime coastal works and offshore structures. These solutions are based on an electrochemical process respectful of the environment that allows the in situ creation of a natural stone from minerals present at the site. The Geocorail® exhibits a high mechanical resistance and presents an aspect which allows it to blend into its surroundings. It also offers the advantage of sequestrating some of the carbon that is present in the oceans. The Geocorail® formation mechanism can also be used to trap and recover certain pollutants present in the marine environment, such as heavy metals. GEOCORAIL continues the development and optimization of its process for direct applications and is looking to partner with major players in maritime engineering for applications complementing existing engineering practices. GEOCORAIL was founded and advised by Truffle Capital in 2012 and is supported, since its creation, by the Holding Incubatrice “Commodities and Materials”. Truffle Capital subscribed to a 2-million-euro capital increase in October of 2015.
